A heartwarming video has emerged from the US of a nineteen-year-old boy with Down's syndrome receiving a university acceptance letter.

The video, shot in Belvidere, Illinois , shows Carter, who was born with the disorder, reacting to the letter notifying him of his place at the University of Iowa.

The UI Reach Programme allows students with special needs to experience college life and attend classes to help them learn how to get a job and live independently.

"Carter had been insisting since he was a junior in high school that he was going to college but because of his disability we thought that dream would not come true for him," his mum, Becky wrote online.

Our son Carter,who has Down Syndrome, is opening a letter from the University of Iowas UI Reach program to see if he was accepted into their program. This program allows kids with special needs to experience all the benefits of staying on a college campus in a dorm room while attending classes to help them learn how to get a job, keep a job, and live independently. A program we just stumbled upon 2 months prior to the opening of this letter. Carter had been insisting since he was a junior in high school that he was going to college but because of his disability we thought that dream would not come true for him. We had never received any information about programs like this but with lots of prayer and prodding from Carter we found this program through the internet. Because Carter is active in Special Olympics their web page offered links to colleges for kids with disabilities and that's where we found the UI Reach program. Cater opened his letter that let him know his dream was about to come true he is going to college!!!!!
