Blackwall tunnel traffic chaos due to large garage fire. London, UK.
A large fire at a Greenwich motorcycle garage in London caused traffic disruption as the Blackwall tunnel was closed due to fear of an explosion from gas cylinders in the burning building.
London Fire Brigade Station Manager Tim Frost said:
“At the height of the incident the whole of the repair workshop was alight. There were a number of gas cylinders inside the premises and fire crews worked to cool them down, as some cylinders can explode when exposed to heat."
The Brigade was called at 0559 and the fire was under control by 1350.
