McCartney noticed a sign being help up by a female audience member reading "He won't marry me 'til he meets you" and another her partner was holding which read "I have the ring and I'm 64".

Realising there was an opportunity for some drama, McCartney stopped his concert to welcome the couple on stage.

The former Beatles frontman then played backing guitar as the man, who gave his name only as John, sang "When I'm sixty-four' to partner Claudia.

Having fulfilled a lifelong dream of meeting his idol, John was then was true to his word and got down on one knee to propose to Claudia, who immediately accepted.
