A heartwarming video has emerged of a search and rescue team saving a dog stuck on a cliff ledge near Durban, South Africa, on Saturday.

The video, captured on a helmet-mounted camera, shows the team using a modified harness to lift the animal onto safe ground.

According to the filmer, the team became aware of the animal's plight after hearing distressed cries while on a routine training exercise.

Following the direction of the sounds, the crew discovered two dogs standing in a precarious position on the ledge of a cliff.

“The whole operation from the time we heard the cries to the time we handed the dogs over to the SPCA inspector took just over 3 hours” the filmer later wrote online.

While the dog seen in the footage is responding well to treatment and will be put up for adoption in the coming weeks, sadly, the other dog’s health was in such poor condition that local veterinary doctors had to put her down.
