New Sydney Metro train experiences mechanical fault

The filmer Jacob Strickling took his first trip on the brand new Sydney Metro ‘driverless’ train line which only began operating to passengers last Sunday.
The trains were delayed due to a ‘mechanical breakdown’.
As Strickling found out later he was actually on the actual train which had broken down. The break down was actually a ‘signal loss’ with the control room and so the train required to be manually driven. Strickling was actually next to the driver (who was using a joystick) filming and didn’t actually realise he was standing next to the driver or that the train was being manually driven. At the end of the line, Strickling found out from a technician that the train was being removed from service so that the issue could be rectified. Strickling thought the trip was very smooth and was pleasantly surprised with how quickly and smoothly the train accelerated to a fairly high speed.
