One dies and several injured after high-rise building collapses in Mumbai

A 10-year-old girl was killed after part of a high-rise building collapsed in Mumbai, western India.

The collapse took place on September 24 in the Khar region of the city.

Visuals showed several people trapped inside the building where the staircase had collapsed.

Teams from National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were pressed into action and initiated a rescue mission.

The deceased, identified as Mahi Motwani, was rescued but succumbed to her injuries later.

She was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Reports said at least 20 people were rescued from the site.

Officials said at least 50 volunteers from various teams were rushed to the spot to aid the rescue.

The building was reportedly undergoing renovation.
