TV presenter films 'disgusting' conditions on First Class plane flight

A video has emerged of what appears to be a very dirty First Class seat on a British Airways flight to the Caribbean.

TV news presenter Owen Thomas captured the footage on Saturday after he departed Gatwick Airport, UK bound for St Lucia.

Providing narration over the video, he documents what he claims to be ‘disgusting’ conditions around his plane seat.

“My partner and I took this trip after a stressful couple of years where we’ve both been working in different countries. We’re not part of the jet-set. We saved for this once in a lifetime opportunity and I’m really appalled that BA could treat us, or anybody else, with such contempt” Thomas, a former BBC anchorman later wrote online.

“I just couldn’t believe it when I took my seat. There were filthy stains all down the seat and the side. When I moved the footstool down, it was horrific. There were months, possibly years, of muck and filth. I reported it to the purser who agreed it was very bad. She offered me 5,000 Avios Points, which I declined. That’s about 50 quid to put towards your next BA flight. That’s a bit pointless as I am unlikely to be taking one in the near future.

“If I was a presented with a area like that in a restaurant, I’d have walked out. Difficult to do at 30,000 feet. Not only was the seat and surrounding area filthy, clearly it’s a health hazard too. That area hadn’t been cleaned for months. They should be ashamed.

“I’ve always favoured BA - I travel a lot with them. They’ve let me down personally."

After being contacted by online newspaper, MailOnline, British Airways apparently apologised for the poor state of the First Class bay and admitted they had 'fallen short of [their] usual high standards'.
