A dramatic video has emerged from China of a two-year-old boy being rescued after falling down a well.

In the footage, captured during the rescue in a field near Luohe in central Henan province earlier this month, firefighters and by-standers can be seen working together to pull the child to safety.

According to witnesses at the scene, the boy was playing with his grandparents when he fell down the 10 metre deep well and became stuck just above the water line, around six metres from the well mouth.

After arriving at the scene, firefighters lowered an oxygen cylinder into the well to help the boy breathe.

They then lowered a long pole down to the child and directed him to put his hands through a rope looped at the end.

Eventually, after more than an hour of trying, the boy was lifted to safety and sent to hospital for treatment for minor grazes.
