Steward delivers baby girl in train waiting room in China
A steward delivered a baby girl in a waiting room in a high speed railway station in central China's Henan Province last Saturday.
Liu Qi, from Hebi East Railway Station, was that night's "midwife". He said they heard that a pregnant woman was giving birth and was rushed to the waiting room on a stretcher.
"She lied on a stretcher on the platform. Several of us stewards stayed with her and her family. She couldn't walk at all at that time," said Liu.
However, the baby was in a hurry to see the new world, and so could not wait for the ambulance to arrive.
"At that time, the baby's head was coming out. I held her head and back, slowly put her on the stretcher," said Liu.
The ambulance came soon, and the doctors cleaned the mother and baby before transferring them both to a hospital.
Zhu Shuaichao, the new father, could still not calm himself after a hectic night.
He stammered, "I want to thank him (Liu Qi) very much. The situation was chaotic. I sincerely thank them. The most important thing is to have my wife and baby safe. I'm very grateful to him."
At present, the mother is in a good condition. As the baby girl was born prematurely and is subsequently suffering from jaundice, she has been transferred to the hospital affiliated to Henan Xinxiang Medical College.
