'Near-death' speedflying crash

Buy video

Dramatic video from the Newsflare archive of a speedflying pilot crashing into trees after "a deadly miscalculation" in Nepal.

The pilot, Olaf Skada, 32 at the time, had been speedflying for two years before the incident and was on a trip with his 'Flynarchy' club.

According to the club he'd been flying too low - causing him to loose control in the moments before the dramatic crash. They later wrote online: "After laying unconscious for about five minutes, he awoke - then some local Nepalese people came to help him.

"Apart from concussion and a generally beaten-up body, he is ok!"

They say he was rescued and helped to walk through the jungle by the locals while fellow club members tried desperately to find him - after seeing him crash and lay unconscious on the ground below them.

The footage, shot from Olaf's body-camera along with views from fellow pilots, was captured in late 2013. The club said it was a "near-death experience ... for other speedflyers to learn from".

After reaching help and finding his friends, the filmer miraculously walked away with only minor injuries.
