Chicagoland Skydiving Center arranged a unique opportunity for skydivers to drop from the bomb bay doors of a B-17 Flying Fortress in July 2014. Licensed skydivers commonly seek rare or unique types of aircraft to jump from, and the special Chicagoland Skydiving Center event allowed a group of 10 jumpers to put a rare bird in their logbooks. The jumpers exited the plane 5,000ft above the dropzone in Rochelle, Illinois. The aircraft is operated by the Collings Foundation, a nonprofit organization that brings war aircraft to air shows across the United States. Spectators pay for rides on these aircraft to raise money for the nonprofit and to maintain the aircraft. While the plane made a stop at a nearby airport in Rockford, Illinois, the skydiving center made special arrangements to secure a flight for skydivers. Each jumper made a donation of nearly $500 to the Collings Foundation in order to have the chance to make this once in a lifetime skydive.

The footage was captured with GoPro cameras on the helmets of the jumpers as well as a camera mounted to the bottom of the aircraft.

"I've been skydiving for more than 30 years and a pilot for more than 20, and B-17 jump was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. As a pilot and a jumper, it's a privilege to have had a ride in this plane. Watching the bomb bay doors open below my feet was a sight I will never forget," said Mike Wood, Chief Operations Officer at Chicagoland Skydiving Center and one of the jumpers in the video.

Chicagoland Skydiving Center (www.PerfectlyGoodAirplane.com) conducts thousands of skydives every year at its dropzone just west of Chicago. Each year, the company brings in specialty aircraft for jumpers to enjoy.
