Skydivers dropped from B-17 Flying Fortress

A cool video has emerged of skydivers being dropped from the bomb bay doors of a B-17 Flying Fortress.

In the footage, captured from helmet-mounted cameras and a camera on the bottom of the aircraft, the jumpers can be seen exiting the plane 5,000ft above a dropzone in Rochelle, Illinois, US.

The iconic aircraft is operated by the Collings Foundation, a nonprofit organization that brings war aircraft to air shows across the United States.

Each jumper made a donation of nearly $500 to the Collings Foundation in order to have the chance to make this once in a lifetime skydive, arranged by the Chicagoland Skydiving Center.

"I've been skydiving for more than 30 years and a pilot for more than 20, and B-17 jump was one of the most incredible experiences of my life, as a pilot and a jumper, it's a privilege to have had a ride in this plane. Watching the bomb bay doors open below my feet was a sight I will never forget," said Mike Wood, Chief Operations Officer at Chicagoland Skydiving Center and one of the jumpers in the video.

Although the footage was captured during the jump in July 2014, it has only recently emerged online.
