A wildlife photographer managed to capture the incredible scene as a pack of African wild dogs, several hyenas and a leopard battled it out of a carcass.

Filmed in Kruger National Park, South Africa, the footage from November 14 shows a single leopard scaring off the pack of wild dogs and snatching the impala carcass.

The filmer told Newsflare: "I saw a pack of African wild dogs busy devouring a male impala, down in the dry river bed. Things quickly took an unexpected and very bizarre turn.

"While the African wild dogs were busy devouring ‘their’ meal, some of the dogs suddenly looked up towards the river bank and to my total surprise, a male leopard appeared on the scene.

"At first, I could not understand why a leopard would take on such a suicidal mission but it all came clear to me very quickly. The leopard was there to reclaim its kill that was stolen from him moments before I arrived at the scene."

The pack of dogs eventually fought back and stole the carcass back from the leopard.

"With biting and snarling the wild dogs managed to rip away the leopard’s kill once again," the filmer added.

"While the leopard took a break, looking on from a distance, the situation became even more bizarre when a hyena arrived on the scene. Hyenas are great enemies of leopards in the wild but on this occasion, something incredible happened.

"The hyena approached the leopard slowly and submissively. After one snarl from the leopard, it was as if two of the top predators in the African wild just became friends.

"To my disbelief, the hyena went to lie down next to the male leopard. There they were, both leopard and hyena lying together, watching how the leopard’s meal is devoured by a pack of African wild dogs."

Once the wild dog pack had moved on, the leopard could only watch as the hyenas chomped at the impala's remains.

It was late afternoon when I was lured to the front of camp by the twittering and whining sounds of African wild dog. Getting to the front with my camera in hand, I managed to capture a spectacle I could never have imagined to see.

Hyenas are great enemies of leopards in the wild but on this occasion something incredible happened. The hyena approached the leopard slowly and submissively. There they were, both leopard and hyena lying together, watching how the leopard’s meal is devoured by a pack of African wild dogs. Every now and then the wild dogs would approach the two predators and harass them with their intimidating sounds and annoying bites coming from all directions.
I knew the arrival of hyenas in the end will mean only one thing. Playing their cards very wisely, the two hyenas waited till the wild dogs were full and seized the opportunity to grab the last remains. The friendship between hyena and leopard was over and the leopard lost it all in the end. The leopard stood no chance taking on two hyenas. All the male leopard could do in the end was to painfully watch how the hyenas run off with the last of the remains. Never have I imagined that one would be able to find three of Africa’s top 5 predators together in one sighting. Definitely one of my rarest and most bizarre sights ever in the wild.
