A dramatic video has emerged of a group of off-duty police officers wrestling a group of pranksters to the ground in Minneapolis, US.

In the footage, captured by a bystander on Saturday evening, bikes can be seen strewn across the street as the officers struggle to restrain six people.

According to local reports, the gang attacked a PedalPub – a bicycle tour involving alcoholic beverages - with water pistols and balloons, without realising the passengers were in fact off-duty cops.

One of the officers can be heard shouting: “Do you understand me? I will break your arm. Stay the f*** on the ground, do you hear me? Do not move. You better leave f*****.”

The six men were arrested for assault and disorderly conduct misdemeanors and each were released later that day on bail.

The video of the arrests was posted online by a bystander with the caption: “Drunk Off Duty cops took down these harmless cats on bikes with squirt guns.”

“Three Pedal Pubs were squirted with water guns. One reacted with giggles and high fives, one had no reaction yet still both parties quickly went on their way, and one-filled with off duty police officers- got off the pedal pub and attacked the cyclists after getting squirted with dollar store purchased squirt guns,” the filmer later wrote online.

“This resulted in the arrest of 6 people, one of which was not involved in the incident at all but still charged as though he was-the other five were cyclists. The PedalPub filled with off duty officers were not planted there but were out of the Burnsville, MN precinct and had just by coincidence been customers.”
