Footage of a powerful lightning storm hitting the Lake District, UK on Wednesday night.

Writing online about the footage, the filmer said: “After what was the hottest day of the year, a massive electrical storm hit the Lake District last night.”

“At a little before mid-night, Grasmere was subject to an intense period of rain, thunder and lightning, where this footage was filmed. Huge fireballs lit up the night sky with the thunder reverberating around the hills.

“The storm passed over Central Lakes. Further South residents described being right in the middle of the storms, strikes & sheet lightning visible all around for about 2 hours. Further north didn't escape either, with constant strikes being seen overhead and further south.”
