++WARNING: CONTAINS GRAPHIC SCENES++
A dramatic video has emerged from China of a man shooting a police officer during an arrest.

The footage was captured by a witness in an apartment building overlooking the scene in Xining City, Qinghai Province, shortly after 3:00pm (local time) on Tuesday.

According to local reports, police were called to Xifulanting residential compound to investigate reports of a man armed with an axe and a serrated knife threatening residents.

Judging the situation to be critical, police evacuated residents and ordered the suspect to lay down his weapons.

The suspect can be seen running towards an officer before swinging an axe – cutting the officer’s hands and causing him to drop his pistol.

The suspect then picks the pistol up and shoots the officer in the left leg.

The suspect can then be seen acting erratically, shooting four times in the direction of the compound exit gate.

At this point, the amateur video ends.

The suspect was reported to have then dropped the pistol and attempted to escape the scene - officers were then able to place him under arrest.

No serious injuries were reported besides the injured officer who was taken to hospital.

The case is under investigation, with the gun and spent bullets being taken as evidence.

The man is suspected of having been under the influence of drugs.
