Footage of explosions near a house in Rainham, Essex after a man reportedly threatened to shoot himself before triggering a bomb scare.

Armed police and bomb disposal experts are reported to have attended the scene on Sunday afternoon after getting calls about a man with a firearm at a home in the area.

A number of explosive devices were 'discovered at the address and made safe', according to local reports, and a man was arrested on suspicion of possession of explosives.

The Metropolitan Police in Havering told some residents to evacuate to a community centre during the "serious incident" before writing on Twitter that others should stay away from windows and "keep the curtains or blinds shut."

"Officers from the Firearms Command and Explosive Officers attended the scene. The London Ambulance Service and the London Fire Brigade were also in attendance. Residents have been evacuated as a precaution." the Met Police said in a statement.

"7 hours after the arrest was made and after a good 80 officers have attended the scene they detonated whatever it was they found at scene", the filmer wrote online.

They added: "We was confused as to what was going on to be honest ... We could see the police and ambulances and fire services."
