The government has warned women to stop playing with phallic-shaped flowers in Cambodia.

The Ministry of Environment released a statement against female locals who were seen touching and picking the penis-shaped flower Nepenthes holdenii, a local variety of pitcher plants, on May 11.

The statement came after a group of women wearing skimpy clothing filmed themselves in the bush fields where the wild carnivorous plants grow on Bokor Mountain in Kampot province.

Footage shows the women picking the flowers and showing them to the camera while making amusing comments about their likeness to the different sizes and shapes of a penis.

"Oh, look, all of you, there are all sizes, big sizes, small sizes," says one of the women excitedly.

"Let's see if all the boys from the provinces look the same or not," quips one of the women.

"This boy from Phnom Penh is small," jokes another, holding a tiny flower.

The government statement said: ‘What they are doing is wrong and they should not do it again in the future. Thank you for loving natural resources, but do not pick the flowers, or they will be ruined.

No official complaint had been lodged against the women in the video.

Nepenthes holdenii, which is a tropical pitcher plant, is a native variety that was first found in the mountains of western Cambodia.
