An unusual video has emerged from China of a young man showing off an electric-powered 'supercar' he designed and made himself.

In the footage, shot in Hainan Province earlier this month, the 27-year-old can be seen displaying the completed car before showing the plans and tools he used to build it.

According to local reports the car's maker - Chen Yinxi - works with his family business of glass production but is interested in automotive design.

He says the car, his second automotive creation, cost around 30,000 yuan (£3,106 GBP) to make and was inspired by the Maserati Birdcage.

The car will be displayed on a local motoring show later this year.
