A dramatic video has emerged from China of tourists being rescued from cable cars that became stuck in mid-air over a valley.

In the footage, filmed during the rescue in Gansu Province this month, emergency workers can be seen climbing onto the cars - using ropes and pulleys to lower tourists to safety.

According to local reports twelve of the pods became stuck amid gale force winds. 33 people were trapped but all escaped injury in the six hour long rescue effort.

The cable car company is reportedly looking into the incident.
