Dramatic CCTV footage has emerged from China of a schoolboy's eventual rescue after struggling and starting to drown in a swimming pool without anybody noticing.

In the video, captured on a poolside security camera in Zhejiang Province last week, the boy can be seen struggling in the deep end of the pool before starting to sink until he is eventually noticed by a lifeguard.

According to local reports the boy, eight, was supposed to have been taking his first swimming lesson with an instructor but ended up in the deep end when the instructor was called away by another student.

Fortunately the boy reportedly survived but suffered some lung damage.
