Footage has emerged from China of people trying to avoid stepping on parts of escalators, using weird and wonderful methods, after a woman's high profile death on Sunday.

The compilation of videos, shot around the country over the week since the woman was seen falling through an escalator plate to her death, shows the cautious response from Chinese locals.

The cities include Guangzhou, Beijing, Chengdu, Jingzhou, Wuhan, Shijiazhuang and Shanghai.

According to local reports the thirty-year-old woman fell to her death through the escalator plate just after pushing her child out of danger at a shopping centre in Hubei Province on Sunday.
