An unusual video has emerged from China of a pensioner using a converted cycle rickshaw on water.

According to local media, the retired doctor came up with the idea for the vehicle as a means of crossing flooded areas of the city.

The rickshaw features large floats, which are stowed on the roof when on land, but come down on either side of the vehicle for buoyancy in the water.

Paddles in the wheels propel the rickshaw through the water.

Many areas of China has been affected by flooding in recent weeks.
