Group of divers retrieve snowmobile from the bottom of a frozen river

An awesome video has emerged of a group of divers retrieving a sunken snowmobile from the bottom of the frozen Daugava river near Riga, Latvia.

The footage, shot by one of the divers last week, shows how lifeguards Edgar and Peter cut the ice open to dive and find the ski-doo at the bottom of the river.

Once the snowmobile was found, around six meters away from the hole they pierced in the ice, they attached barrels full of air to the vehicle to make it float back to the surface.

They then manage to lift the ski-doo back on the ice by using a lever system.

According to Edgar's girlfriend, a man was riding his ski-doo on the 2cm thick ice 700 metres from the coast when him and his vehicle went through the ice.

The man was rescued but the vehicle was only recovered a week later after the divers were directly called by the snowmobile driver.

"They only had coordinates taken by drone and guys hoped that reaching the spot where the snowmobile sank, they will see a trace, but as in the video can be seen - nothing suspicious to see, everything was white and plain" she wrote online.

"Hoping for the good fortune they started to hit the ice unknowingly if they are even close. Edgar dived in and already after 2 minutes found the snowmobile about 6 meters from ice-hole".
