A science teacher based in Palm Beach, Australia, filmed as a cormorant tried to swallow a huge fish it just caught.

Jacob, the filmer, told Newsflare: "The cormorant in this footage had dived and speared a large wrasse fish and managed to bring it up to the wharf.

"In order to eat the fish, the cormorant has to swallow the fish headfirst, first by positioning it and then lifting it overhead so that the fish can slide down the birds throat.

"The bird tried over and over to get the fish into the correct position for swallowing.

"Due to the large size and weight of the fish the bird found it very difficult to get into the correct position.

"After a few attempts on the dry wharf, the bird moved the fish to a lower platform which was underwater. It made it slightly easier to move the fish around, but still the bird could not achieve its final goal. Eventually the fish slipped away under the water and the bird all but gave up."
