Interesting footage of emergency crews taking part in a simulated disaster exercise in London, reportedly the largest ever of its kind in Europe.

The video, filmed yesterday, shows day 2 of "Exercise Unified Response", which imagines the scenario of a tower block crashing down onto a Tube station causing mass casualties.

According to reports, the four-day exercise involves dozens of agencies, including the Government's Cobra committee, Search and Rescue teams and local authorities.

In reality, a disaster of this kind would also involve activating the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, which would see experts and help come from European member states.

The exercise took place at four locations in the UK and involved real Tube carriages and rubble.

Exercise Unified Response is a large scale multi-day, multi-agency command post exercise.

The scenario is based on a significant building collapse, incorporating heavy transport and mass casualties.

The exercise is a complex scenario that will present a range of challenges to frontline responders from all participating agencies and specialist teams such as those that undertake Urban Search and Rescue (fire service), Hazardous Area Response Teams (ambulance service) and Disaster Victim Identification (police service)

The exercise includes activation of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.
