A shocking video has emerged of a Carpet Python eating a cat whole in a garden in Brisbane, QLD, Australia.

The footage, shot by "Snake out" Brisbane snake catchers on Monday, shows the sad moment when the python slowly swallows the cat belonging to the next door neighbours.

"Unfortunately by the time we arrived the cat was long gone and being swallowed, so there was little for us to do than wait and watch, after all why waste a good meal and a lot of effort from a native animal which is more often on the receiving end of such action?" the filmer wrote online.

“We understand that this can be a bit distressing to watch, but please remember that snakes are native, protected wildlife.

"They are a normal part of life here in Brisbane, and while they can be dangerous if mishandled or attacked, they're harmless enough if left alone.

"Leave the handling to those with permits and professional qualifications, and appreciate their awesomeness from a safe distance” he added.

On today's morning menu for this Carpet Python (Morelia spilota), a roaming south Brisbane neighbourhood cat, apparently from the house next door. Unfortunately by the time we arrived the cat was long gone and being swallowed, so there was little for us to do than wait and watch, after all why waste a good meal and a lot of effort from a native animal which is more often on the receiving end of such action?
