Fascinating science phenomenon - do you know the answer?

A YouTuber has recreated a science experiment that doesn't have an agreed-upon answer in the scientific community.

The video, filmed in Australia for the YouTube channel Make Science Fun, shows science teacher Jacob Strickling trying to work out why only hot water squirts out of a pipette when it's turned upwards, but cold water doesn't do anything.

Jacob wrote online: "The fascinating scientific phenomenon in this video could be the next big thing.

"When cold water is drawn in a soft plastic pipette, and the pipette turned upwards, not much happens, as expected."

"BUT, when hot water (like 90 degrees celsius) is drawn up in the pipette, when the pipette is turned upwards, the water flows and then dramatically squirts out (upto one metre away)," he continued.

"It's ... fascinating, because the scientific explanation is not straight forward.

"Different people will have different ideas and explanations for: Why does the hot water flow more readily then the cold water; why does the hot water squirt out; where does the energy come from to propel the water?"
