Impressive footage has emerged of a huge tornado spotted in Pretoria, South Africa, during a hail storm.

The video, shot in July by a driver on the R21, shows the twister spinning close to the highway.

The filmer wrote online: ''It was raining on the way home, and very soon what seemed to be a light drizzle, turned into a hale storm.

"I noticed in the field on the right hand side of the highway, a figure that started out as a small wind and then very soon appeared to be a small tornado."

"The tornado grew very aggressive instantly and swooped up pieces of buildings and earth'," he continued.

Driving on the way home at approximately 4pm on the R21 towards Pretoria. It has been raining on the way home, and very soon what seemed to be a light drizzle, turned into a hale storm.
