Another storm, powering in from the Atlantic has battered the UK coast, bringing misery to over 43,000 people, as power companies struggle to restore electricity. Wind speeds, of up to 114mph has been recorded so far, this morning, in the UK.

Thankfully, the storm has coincided with a low-tide off the coast of Whitehaven, in West Cumbria, as compared to Storm Xavier, which struck earlier this month - link: http://www.newsflare.com/video/8700

The 400 year old harbour had substantial damage caused to it, when Xavier hit - it is without doubt that this new storm will cause further, untold damage to the harbour, which is officially a historic monument.

How much more of this, can Whitehaven harbour take? The Whitehaven Harbour Commissioners have no money to carry out repairs from the previous storm, and are hoping that the likes of English Heritage can help save the port from falling into the sea.

Whitehaven was once the second most important port in the UK, but the shallow waters of the Solway Firth meant that trade moved elsewhere around the UK.

In 1778, John Paul Jones brought the American War of Independence to Whitehaven - it was partly, and act of vengeance. He was born at Kirkcudbright in southwest Scotland in 1747, and served his seaman's apprenticeship on board the King George slave ship based at Whitehaven - it's the last time that the English mainland was invaded from the sea, by foreign forces.
