Thousands of ice bears plunge into North Sea for New Year

Buy video

The 28th edition of North Sea Dip in Ostend / Oostende (Belgium) attracted more than 3000 enthusiasts despite the cold. During the New Year's Dive, all the "Polar Bears" brave the cold North Sea Water to freeze the hangover from the New Year festivities and enter a new healthy year. With a windchill of -8 degrees Celsius it was maybe the most cold edition ever in Belgium. Ice bears of all kinds and forms ventured out in the cool sea water, some hesitant, others with the thought that they were going to die... The cash that was raised during this polar bear plunge - participants had to pay 5 euros - goes to a good cause, i.e. Make a Wish and SOS Children's Villages.
