Footage has emerged of the Greek city of Thessaloniki covered in ice after anticyclone Ariadne arrived in the country from Siberia.

The video, shot on Monday morning, shows ice formations around the city and a frozen pond.

According to reports, the temperatures hit minus 15C in some parts of the country over the weekend.

Anticyclone “Ariadne” a high-pressure system from Siberia scans Greece, bringing extreme freezing temperatures and snow at most parts of the country, including the capital. Temperatures drop below the -12 Celsius, with the wind-chill factor making it feel like -20. Meanwhile deaths of 2 people are related with the extreme weather. Siberian High being activated and bringing waves of cold weather to Greece, it is northeasterly system that carries cold masses from Russia, Ukraine and Black Sea.
