A heartwarming video has emerged of a woman visiting her cancer-suffering mother, after she shaved her head to show solidarity with her.

The footage, shot last month in a small town in Connecticut, USA, shows Rebecca Slivinsky entering her mother's room with a hood on, asking her to close her eyes.

Rebecca puts a present in her mother's hands and removes her hood before telling her to open her eyes.

The mother first looks at the scarf in her hands before she notices Rebecca's short hair and shouts: "Becky, you did not!" taking her in her arms.

"Though miles separate us, we will get through this journey together," Rebecca wrote.

Originally from a quaint town in Connecticut, I've never been very far away from home. Recently, I left my home to attend graduate school in Georgia. A few months after I left, my mom told me that she was diagnosed with breast cancer. When I went home for Christmas, I wanted to give her something to let her know she wasn't alone. As a surprise to my mom, I cut my hair in solidarity with her. Though miles separate us, we will get through this journey together
