Impressive footage has emerged of a skydiver dropping his GoPro mid-flight and managing to catch it with his legs.

The video, filmed 3,000 ft in the air above Portugal's Algarve on New Year's Eve 2016, features the moment the GoPro camera slips out of its clip and begins to tumble towards the ground.

What happens next is an example of very quick reactions, which the filmer described as his "ninja skills".

The filmer later wrote online: "It was my first skydive boogie (which is a skydive festival) at Skydive Algarve in Portugal and it was my first time filming with my GoPro on my helmet and thinking back I didn't fully clip in in the mount as it was hard to do so.

"So I was practicing swooping up high and I hit it off with my slider and in that moment time slowed down and I looked at it and how high I was so my ninja skills kicked in and caught it with my legs!"

"I was about 3,000 ft in the air and I was thinking where am I going to hold it as I need my hands free for my handles," he continued.
