Taoist Chinese New Year tradition involves lighting fireworks with liquid hot iron
Footage of an ancient Taoist tradition being performed in China on the eve of Chinese New Year.
The video, filmed in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province on Tuesday, shows what appears to be fireworks and fire crackers going off but there's actually more to it than that.
The ritual, known as Da Tie Hua, involves the performer heating iron to an extremely high temperature before striking the liquid metal, prompting it to spark wildly.
The sparks then ignite the fireworks and firecrackers, creating an impressive display.
The performance has its roots in the Taoist religion but it has since been absorbed into general Chinese culture.
