Street lights up after cables explode as gale-force winds strike Cornwall

This stunning footage shows the moment a residential street was lit up by an impromptu fireworks display - after power cables were brought down in gale-force winds. Power lines were seen arcing spectacularly at around 3am today (Thursday) before several explosions were heard. The noise woke up many residents who were left in a state of panic. Blake Evans, 39, among those to be awoken by the intense smell of burning and the bright flashing and crash of explosions just outside his bedroom window. He got out his mobile phone to film the dramatic moment at Bodriggy Street in Hayle, Cornwall.
