2nd Alarm Working Commecial building fire (Apartment building) #4

22:55 Hrs. Northumberland County Communications center (NCCC) dispatched a working commercial building fire in the area of Mr. Pizza.

The fire was reported to be in Apartment 401. Upon arrival of the first officer upgraded this call to a 2nd alarm assignment bringing in additional apparatus and manpower.

The occupant of the apartment involved confirmed that the fire started in the kitchen area when he left the kitchen to get his cell phon. When he returned he found the stove on fire.

The resident then assisted his pregnant girlfriend out of their apartment and alerted other tenants about the fire.

In all 3 ladder trucks and a squirt were pressed into service along with several Engine companies.

No reports of injuries.

02-11-2017, Box 50-01: 45 South 5th Street in the city, at approximately 22:55, Shamokin Fire Bureau was dispatched for a reported apartment building fire. Calls to Northumberland County 911 reporting a fire in apartment #4. Deputy Chief Jeffery arrived about 2 minutes later reporting large apartment building smoking showing from the third floor, a second alarm was then transmitted. E -41 and 11 arrived and stretched an 1-3/4 and 2-1/2 to the fire floor, Rescue 62 assigned to primary search with deteriorating conditions command decided to transition to a defensive operation utilizing E-41s boom. Operating for about 5 minutes firefighters were able to transition back to interior operations. T32, T2 and T294 were able to access the roof to assist with vertical ventilation. The fire was reported under control within a hour. Extensive overhaul issued until the box was placed in service around 0245.

Responding and assisting were all Shamokin Fire Bureau units. Chief Zimmerman, Assist Chief Rogers, Deputy Chief Jeffery (IC) Battalion Chief Pilkus, Coal Twp E-111, Chief Feese, Deputy Chief Malukis and Assist Chief Timco. Kulpmont Squad 221 for RIT, Atlas E-21 Mt Carmel Rescue 5, Upper Augusta E-721 as the second due RIT, fire police from Shamokin, Coal Twp and Mt. Carmel and transfers from the City of Sunday E561, Truck 542 and Coal Twp E-151.

The fire damage was primarily contained to the apartment of origin with smoke and water damage throughout the building. Along with some smoke reported in the apartment building next to the fire building. No reported injuries. The fire was ruled accidental and turned over to the property owner
