A rare video has emerged from South Africa of a standoff between a leopard and a porcupine.

In the video, which was filmed in Kruger National Park in December, two porcupines are seen running from something by the side of the road.

As the camera zooms in, it becomes clear they are being chased by a leopard.

One of the porcupines turns back to confront the big cat and the two run across the road where a tense standoff takes place with the leopard trying in vain to get to the spineless front end of the porcupine.

According to the fllmer, the leopard did cut one of the porcupine's legs but eventually moved on to look for less prickly prey.
