Hurricane Force Winds at High Tide in Penzance

Buy video

Hurricane force winds gusting to 80mph sent waves up to 25 feet high crashing in to the south coast of Cornwall today. The promenade road at Penzance was closed by Police who could barely stand while directing traffic. In Newlyn, sea water from overtopping at high tide created floods in the low lying centre of the fishing port. As massive waves again broke onto the already damaged promenade and over the storm repairs at Newlyn Green, emergency services are on standby as the wind is due to increase overnight. The clean up operation will doubtless start all over again once this storm subsides.
