Blacktip Reef Shark - Mother and baby

Buy video

he blacktip reef shark prefers shallow, inshore waters. The mother in this clip is monitoring her pup, while the young shark explores the sandy reef area. In general, they spend most of their time swimming back and forth along the reef ledges. They can grow up to 1.6-1.8 meters and have a distinct black tip on most of their fins. Their temperament is timid and will usually swim away from divers who approach them. Unfortunately, this was my only shark encounter on this trip but nevertheless, it is always a special experience to observe these beauties in their natural habitat.
