RANSHAW — No injuries were reported as firefighters put out an early morning row home blaze on Third Street in Ranshaw.

07:30 Hrs. NCCC (Northumberland County Communications Center) dispatched a 2nd alarm working structure fire at 217 Third Street, Ranshaw, Coal Township, Pa.

Upon arrival the first in units found fire venting from the 2nd division on “C” side as it was spreading down the row.


Command lead by Coal Township Fire Chief Russ Feese initiated an aggressive fire attack included using a trench cut of the roof to act as a fire break saving the remainder of the row.

The fire was quickly brought under control and extinguished within an hour as Fire fighters overhauled hotspots to prevent a rekindle.

A K-9 was placed in a vehicle along and a cat was retrieved from one of the homes in the middle of the row.

Fire companies form Coal Township and Shamokin Responded to this incident.
The cause has not been determined but believed to be electrical in nature as of this writing per Chief Feese

The Red Cross reports that 11 are homeless from this incident.
