The exterior of muralist Hector Duarte’s studio is covered by his “Gulliver in Wonderland” mural, a frequent stop on public art tours in the Pilsen community. The artwork covers roughly 3,000 square feet on three sides of Duarte’s studio-home. It features a giant, outstretched Mexican immigrant as Gulliver, struggling to break free from the barbed wire that binds him. Duarte’s murals and studio work deal with themes of identity, immigration and freedom.
