01:51 hrs. Northumberland County Communications Center (NCCC) dispatched Box 200-01 for a working structure fire at 909 Scott Street, Kulpmont, Pa.

Prior to the Departments arrival an on duty Police Officer confirmed a working incident with fire showing from the 3rd division and NCCC upgraded the box to a 2nd alarm working fire.

The flames spread to neighboring duplex in the attic area of 913 Scott Street and was stopped from spreading any further.

Truck companies made slow progress due to a new metal roof on the original fire building but gained the upper hand as the fire was brought under control in about 1hr. and was declared out around 04:15 hrs.

A mayday was transmitted forcing R.I.T. to be deployed for a down firefighter when the steps to the attic gave way sending Chief 24 Mike Snyder plummeting 2 divisions. Fellow firefighters assisted Chief 24 to safety as he appeared uninjured and refused additional medical treatment after being evaluated on scene. Later in the day Chief drove himself to the Emergency room for treatment / evaluation.

A PSP fire marshal will continue his investigation on Monday into the cause of this incident that left 3 families homeless.
