Amusing footage of a local farmer using his tractor to lead around 200 pregnant sheep through an English village.

The video shows the farmer driving his tractor through Askrigg in North Yorkshire, while the huge flock of ewes follows happily.

The two-mile journey, which usually takes place over five days, has been an annual tradition in the Yorkshire Dales for around 90 years and traditionally marks the start of Spring.

The sheep are taken to a safe, sheltered field where they can give birth to their lambs.

Once a year, a local farmer brings around 200 pregnant ewes from the fields above the village of Askrigg, in Wensleydale, North Yorkshire, down through the main street to a lambing shed at the bottom end of the village. The building with the railings you see on the right is the one used by the BBC as Skeldale House for the 1980s veterinary series 'All creatures great and small' which is still popular worldwide and attracts many tourists to the dales. You'll also notice the street was cleared of cars. This was for a local lady who wanted to get a picture of this for a Yorkshire Dales calendar she is making for 2018. It's to be sold to raise money for a breast cancer charity. I know this area extremely well as I regularly drive a community bus through Askrigg on the way between Leyburn and Hawes on behalf of the Little White Bus company.
