Seal greets paddleboarder on the River Severn

Buy video

An amusing video from the Newsflare archive of a paddleboarder encountering a seal on the river Severn in Gloucestershire.

Tristan Bawn was paddling up the river on the outskirts of Gloucester in 2013 when the friendly seal popped up from the water and began playing with his board.

It is believed the mammal is 'Keith' a grey female seal who acquired celebrity status after a petition to save her from being returned to the sea gained more than 3,700 signatures.

"20 miles inland on the river Severn on the outskirts of Gloucester, a seal pops up and tries to jump on to my Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP). Later we found out it was a female seal called Keith, a bit of a celebrity on the river. It was an amazing experience and something we will never forget!"
