Fascinating footage of a Hot Air Engine (also known as the Stirling Engine). Invented in 1816 by Scottish clergyman named Robert Stirling. The original engine was close to 3 metres high!
Reverend Stirling was motivated by the dangers posed by exploding boilers in the early days of steam engines.
Stirling engines produce propulsion from a heat source. They could be used to generate electricity by focusing the suns light onto the heat absorber. They could even be used in automobiles to produce electricity using the waste heat of the cars engine.
