A heartwarming video has emerged of parents announcing to their children that they have adopted a rescue dog.

The footage, filmed at a home on May 8 in Minnesota, USA, shows Addi and Frankie crying with joy when they find out they are getting a puppy.

''Our kids have been asking for a dog for at least 5 years,'' the filmer later wrote online.

''We decided the best thing to do would be to adopt a rescue dog, however, we didn't want to get the kids hopes up in case someone beat us to the punch with an application for Luna.''

''We decided the best thing to do would be to surprise them after our application was accepted and the two of us (mom and dad) had met Luna and knew it would work out,'' she continued.

''We told the kids that an old high school friend of mine was driving through on her way to Wyoming and she had a puppy. The kids were ecstatic as they love puppies.''

''The video I shot shows the kids going from confusion to shock to some very emotional reactions,'' she added.

Our kids Addi (14) and Frankie (12) have been asking for a dog for at least 5 years. My husband works a full-time plus job and I am a business owner and our kids are very active in school, sports and extra curricular activities. Needless to say, life is bu-sy. However, we felt that we were finally at a place where they would be responsible enough to help out with a dog. We decided the best thing to do would be to adopt a rescue dog, however, we didn't want to get the kids hopes up in case someone beat us to the punch with an application for Luna. Luna has been with us for two wonderful weeks now and we call her Luna Love as she has a heart marking on the top of her nose. We adopted her from Second Hand Hounds here in Minneapolis and they run a fantastic adoption agency! Luna is happy to have found her forever home and she loves walks, Mr. Giraffie chew toy, playing knee (paw) hockey with Frankie and chasing birds.
