tasmanian Motorcycle crash
Coming off my bike on the last day of a sevenday trip round Tassie.
So easy to see in hind site all the things I did wrong and what contributed to the crash.
Overcast/ dark weather- I should have changed to clear visor and also put rainex on visor. I kept putting visor up and down to see.
Road was bit crappy to the left so I choose the wrong line , I came in way to tight and ran wide, the road has a nasty , steep reverse camber towards the edge of the road and its fairly wide, you can see in the slo mo the moment I run wide and hit this camber sloping the other way, it stands the bike completely up and I'm off road.
fighting it on the side not using brakes firing the low side, I'm now just staring at the guide post, thinking its an old school solid bastard, plus i see a rock i duck left instead of right...woops thats a big bloody culvet there lol.
I jumped up thinking I could keep going at this stage, I did not realise the handlebar(according to the surgeon) had entered my inside thigh gone right in and up behind my groin creating a hole she could fit her fist in. lots of repair work to do inside, but just missed the femoral artery, otherwise I would now be dead.
Huge thanks go to My father in law and Pete the ranger, who were first on the scene and the nurse who was driving by, getting the wound dressed and tourney on. Also keeping me warm and talking whilst in shock waiting for Ambos. Huge thanks to the ambo crews from Scottsdale, st, helens, scamander, st marys who picked me up and got me to Launceston via transfer. and huge thanks to surgeons and nurses at Launceston General hospital for the best care. Finally thanks to my mate Jason for taking care of my shit and getting me from hospital to the airport.
