02:14 Northumberland County Communications Center dispatched a 1st alarm working structure fire at 225 - 227 North Chestnut Street, Mount Carmel. While responding the first arriving units were notified by NCCC that they had numerous calls for this incident and PD confirmed a fully involved duplex.
Engine 2 and Truck 2 had the address on side "A". Engine 21 established a water supply and supplied truck 2. Truck 32 setup on the “BC” corner while Engine 1 eventually made its way to side "C" on Water Street.
Upon arrival Engine 2 went with big water (deck gun) for a quick knock down of the exterior and suppression of the 2nd division. While a transition to an interior attack was setup and mounted making quick work of the situation.
Fire Chief Williams confirmed that the fire is believed to have started in 227 which is sustained heavy damage whos occupant was away on business at the time of the fire. While 225 primarily sustained moderate to heavy smoke and water damage.
A pickup truck next to the structure also caught fire.
A State Police Fire Marshall is expected on the scene later in the day.
One firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion while one bystander was evaluated after suffering a syncope episode and transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
Second Alarm units transferred to the borough as a precaution to ensure the safety of all residents in the event they were needed.
