Pride of lions versus a Nile monitor lizard

Buy video

I shot this amazing interaction between a pride of lions and a Nile monitor lizard in the northern Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. A pride of lions, full from a recent meal, were resting under a tree when a Nile monitor walked in front of them. The adults seemed to care about the lizard however the young lions in the pride decided to take a closer look when one of them was struck in the face by the lizards tale. The monitor then casually walked off into a shallow depression and the young lions walked back to the adults, the egos bruised.
